Pétur Grétarsson studied percussion at Reykjavík College of Music and later jazz, percussion and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

He has been active on the Icelandic music scene for 25 years.  Pétur Grétarsson has performed regularly with Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He has given solo recitals and has appeared with miscellaneous ensembles performing his own and other composers' music.
Many of his creations are related to theatres and he has composed film music as well.
Furthermore he has been a productive programmer for radio.
Pétur Grétarsson is the artistic director of Reykjavík Jazz Festival.

This April Reykjavik’s Harpa Concert Hall comes to life with 24 concerts and events featuring more than 100 musicians, composers and amateurs. The festival will present different genres of music; classical and electronic music, improvisation, noise and many more. 4 different halls will be used to present orchestral, ensemble, chamber, solo music, sound installations and films. In different foyer areas works by Wolff, Globokar, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Icelandic school children will be presented.There will be exciting activity Outside Harpa. Some of the best independent musicians of Iceland will be involved performing classic works as well as new creations.
